The conversation with Auntie Baltwin continues.
“Would you care for some tea?” Auntie Baltwin motions toward a sitting room. As she enters, a haggard cat looks up from one of the chairs.

"Sure an we could use a spot of tea, ja. Very gud of yeh."
ReplyDeleteFergus will keep her engaged, since she seems to have some kind of problem with the rest of the party. I'm trying to find out where she sends the kids off to, so he'll ask questions about their "activities" and "learning and such."

Auntie Baltwin pours the tea. After the cups are passed around she adds a few splashes of what you assume to be alcohol into her own. Holding up the bottle she offers, “Would anyone else care for a nip?”
ReplyDelete“Mostly I attend to the health of the children using the donations I receive and the meager skill taught to me by my grandmother. There is also the cooking and cleaning. The children must be feed. Those who are able help with the chores and sometimes run errands. At night, when things are quiet, a bedtime story or two is not out of the question.”
“More tea?”
Jerry passes on the tea.
ReplyDeleteNoc is also not interested in the tea. Irori only knows what she makes it with, though he takes some notice in whatever she poured into her own.
ReplyDelete"What sort of flavoring are you adding today Auntie?" Noc says in his best attempt to not sound judgmental or accusing.
Diplomacy: 8 -1 = 7 :/ (should learn to keep my mouth shut)

"No tea, Jerry? Would you care for something else?" She makes no immediate move to get up.
ReplyDelete"Pathfinders you said. To what do I owe the honor of such illustrious visitors? Surely a simple messenger would have served to make the delivery."
"What kind of chores and errands"? Do you have the children do?
ReplyDeleteI would also like to ask about a tour of the house. Looking for anything out of the Ordinary. Appraise? I would also like to check on the children making the sick noises upstairs to see if we can help them.

Korg chimes in to answer "the Society had heard rumors of these medicines being stolen and misused; they sent us along to ensure safe delivery, and see if there was any truth to these rumors. Have you had any issues previously with your deliveries? Has anyone tried to relieve you of any medicines? The Society would like to help if so...."

"There have been no issues of which I am aware. Donations seem to arrive on a regular basis. I have never heard of anything not arriving as expected. We are grateful for the generosity of the various churches and charities that provide assistance. You are kind to look into the matter."
ReplyDelete“The children, when they are well, help with the chores. Occasionally I will send them on errands to purchase goods from the store.”
“If you would like a tour of our humble home, I will be happy to oblige but we must keep it quick. The children are best not disturbed.”
Noc notices that the bottle is mostly empty.
ReplyDeleteWhen confronted, she laughs. “Ha! It is just some of my special helper. Seems most days you need it if you want to make it through the day in this house. These children are killing
me!”
Fergus and Ronan believe they hear half truths in much of what Auntie Baltwin is saying. You are not sure but she seems to be telling you what you want to hear.
ReplyDeleteOOC: She sends them off to "Make Change". :)
ReplyDelete"O course we'd take a tour," Fergus replies. "Wouldnt want to tarry overmuch, howe'er. Sure an we can see yuir a busy woman!"
ReplyDeleteFergus will try to keep her occupied in case a stealthy member of the group decides to wander off...

Noc shifts uncomfortably on his feet. A tour of this place is the last thing he wants, but he can't shake the feeling this old hag is hiding something.
ReplyDelete"A tour? Sure... I'll take a walk around with you. ...Thank ye." he says as he pushes a needy cat away with his foot.
to her comment of "Pathfinders you said. To what do I owe the honor of such illustrious visitors? Surely a simple messenger would have served to make the delivery."
ReplyDeletei reply "we are simple messengers"
