Lady Emyralda moved closer to the combat action. She moved as quickly as her short legs would allow. Barnacleez followed her but stopped short to use his wand once more. The Magic Missile struck the remaining goblin and dealt 5 damage. Wahesh ran toward the last monster and began to swim across the stream. Cando moved to the east and drew a dart as he did. The fighter threw his weapon and it was on the mark, striking the monster for 6 damage and killing it.

Ro-Mahn exited the steam and shouted "Surrender or die!” before realizing the fight was over. The rest of his demand was buried in a mumble. Stabem moved to Lady Emyralda and looked around for additional danger but nothing new emerged.

A search of the downed goblins yields the following:

Rules Q for my Homies

Situation came up today at the table, wanted to know your take(s) on it...  I've got a couple days to make a ruling.

Party polymorphs the enemy cleric into a Newt, currently grappled by the Monk.  Monk then rolls to "move" the target and succeeds, and stuffs the Newt(Cleric) into his handy haversack...

Can the Newt get out on its own? I would note: Cleric failed the Fort save (change form) but made the Will save (kept her mind)... I don't see much to explain how you can get out of a HH, how would you guys handle this?

Fun Fact!

Do a google image search for "gallows of madness what lurks in the woods" and the second hit is Keith's goblin-sheep.

Please provide a little more direction in your turn posts

Just something that has come to mind over the last several turns. For those of you posting conditional actions, I am doing my best to try to determine what your character would do.

That said, while it is helpful to say that you try to gain flanking, it is not as helpful if you do not identify the target and/or maximum movement you plan to take. If I do not know where you are thinking of moving or which target you have an eye upon it is hard to get the result you are hoping to achieve.

There have been several instances where a character could move to flanking but not move and attack. I have been assuming that you always want the attack regardless if you gain flanking. If you can achieve both it is a bonus.

The goblin to the east shot at Ro-Mahn with his shortbow. The arrow missed the rouge and the goblin moved further to the north. The goblin to the south five-foot stepped back and tried to shoot Wahesh. The monster fumbled the arrow as it tried to nock it and misfired. The western goblin five-foot stepped away from Cando and fired at Barnacleez. The arrow struck the sorcerer and dealt 2 damage.

As the goblin to the north was out of easy reach, Ro-Mahn moved forward and attacked the southern goblin. The rouge thrust with his rapier but missed his target. Barnacleez used his wand again. The gnome zapped the goblin in front of him with a Magic Missile for 3 damage. Lady Emyralda moved next to Wahesh and defensively cast a Burning Hands spell. The fire washed over all three goblins and the two remaining goblin dogs. All the goblins and one of the goblin dog succeeded in dodging the full brunt of the spell. The goblins laughed off the fire damage but the goblin dogs took 2 and 5 damage respectively. Wahesh dropped his bow and drew his swords as he stepped forward to attack. The fighter hit the goblin once with his longsword dealing 7 damage and once with his short sword dealing 6 damage. The combination killed the goblin.

The goblin facing Barnacleez dismounted. It and the goblin dog both attacked the sorcerer. The goblin dog bit the sorcerer and dealt 4 damage to the gnome. Barnacleez moved forward wielding his magic wand. The gnome fired a Magic Missile at the first goblin he could see. The missile hit home and dealt 2 damage. Ro-Mahn stayed hidden in the stand of trees hoping one of the goblins would ride near. Lady Emyralda cast a Guidance spell on Stabem and drew her weapon in case the monsters closed for melee. Wahesh drew his bow and moved for a better line of sight at the targets. The fighter let loose an arrow but it missed the mark wide.

The goblins spurred their mounts forward and fired their bows at the party. The first shot at Baracleez in retaliation. The arrow grazed the sorcerer and dealt 1 damage. The second fired at Wahesh.  The arrow grazed the fighter and dealt 1 damage. The last fired at Lady Emyralda but missed the target. The goblins moved swiftly up the field, swinging wide of the stand of trees and the waiting Ro-Mahn. The first pulled up his mount before Barnacleez. The second moved to engage Stabem. Once the goblins had passed. Ro-Mahn exited the woods and moved to flank the enemy that was sizing up Barnacleez. The rogue attacked with his rapier but missed the goblin dog. GoM: What Lurks in the Woods - GM Turn Post 5

As the dust settles from the goblin attack, the sound of deranged, off-key singing filters onto the field.

Ro-Mahn and Barnacleez recognize the words sung in the goblin tongue:

“Chase them! Chase them! Low and high!
Cut their eyes out, make them cry!
Cut them! Chop them! Slice them up!
Feed them to our goblin pups!”

Three goblins riding small goblin dogs come into view to the south, crossing into the field through a break in the fence.

Lady Emyralda stepped into flanking with Barnacleez but could not connect with her scimitar.

The goblin swung at Barnacleez with his dogslicer. The attack hit and dealt 3 damage. The monster’s battle cry was cut short as Wahesh stepped forward and dispatched it with solid swings from his longsword and short sword that dealt 4 and 7 damage respectively.

Lady Emyralda drew her scimitar and waited for the goblins to close. Barnacleez leveled his new wand, Missy, and unleashed a magic missile at the nearest goblin. The missile hit and dealt 4 damage. Ro-Mahn moved forward, under the cover of the trees. The shepherd boy ran past the party to the northwest.

The goblins clumsly shrugged of their “disguises” as they drew weapons and headed toward the party. Lady Emyralda fired her fire bolt at the same goblin that Barnacleez targeted the bolt hit the target but did not seem to have any effect. The wounded goblin charged and attacked the cleric. The dogslicer struck the halfling for 3 damage. Once the monster was up close and in her face, the cleric recognized the monster’s fiendish taint.

The next goblin charged Wahesh but its attack missed. Another moved forward to threaten the fighter and another engaged Barnacleez. The last moved forward and past the obscured Ro-Mahn. The rouge lashed out with an attack of opportunity but missed the monster. It came to a halt and attacked the rogue but missed.

Wahesh attacked the goblin in his face. The longsword hit home dealing 4 damage while the short sword missed the mark. Cando took a five-foot step and attacked the goblins engaged with Wahesh. He hit with two mighty strokes dealing 10 and 7 damage which killed both targets. Stabem maneuvered to the left and engaged the goblin attacking Lady Emyralda. The halfling hit with his rapier and dealt 3 damage and dropped the monster.

The boy stopped long enough to catch his breath and point. “There were several goblins. They were in the woods to the south.” Lady Emyralda peppered to boy with more questions. “How many sheep do you have? Are your parents close? Where did you last see them?”

Ro-Mahn studied the boy to see if anything rang false with his actions or his story. The rogue was convinced of the boy’s sincerity.

Before the boy could answer further, a group of “sheep” came into view around the nearby stand of trees. Cando stared for a moment before declaring, “Those are not sheep! Those are goblins wearing sheep!” Barnacleez nodded his agreement and said, “Let’s get’em Missy” and the gnome drew a wand. At Cando's warning, Wahesh and Stabem drew their weapons.
