The party waided into the room with Cando and Wahesh taking the lead, moving toward the stairs located in the northwest. Ro-Mahn moved toward the nearest barrel and climbed on top. The human proceeded to hop along across a couple more barrels as he headed to the western ledge.

Lady Emyralda, Stabem and Barnacleez were forced to swim due to their shorter stature. As the party neared the center of the room, there was a ripple in the water and Stabem narrowly avoided a strike from the circular maw of a giant leech.

No traps or magic were detected upon the trap door. Ro-Mahn and Barnacleez gave Cando the all clear and the party entered the downward sloping passage. The passage ended after a drop of about 15 feet.

The backside of a secret door was discovered. It too proved to be without traps or magic auras. The door was stuck but Cando put his shoulder into it and forced the portal open. The half-orc was soaked with fetid water that rushed in from the partially submerged room beyond.

The party decided to investigate whatever was glinting in the sunlight. After carefully navigating the garden, Ro-Mahn climbed to the top of the gazebo to take a closer look. The shiny object turned out to be a key. Ro-Mahn estimated that it was meant to open an interior door of the manor.

Heading back inside, the party went to work on musical endeavors. Lady Emyralda cast the Mending spell several times to repair the broken lute while Cando sat at the harpsicord to play the music box tune. Following the sheet music, the half-orc could play the melody without any difficulty. Once the music had been played there was a click and the nearby carpeting sunk slightly. Rolling back the floor covering, the party discovered a secret trap door and a passage angling down and to the east.

A search of the room did not uncover any traps, dangers or anything of value. Looking out the eastern window revealed a good view of the garden and gazebo. The glint of something was seen upon the gazebo’s roof.

Looking under the bed uncovered letters scratched into the floor. The words “help me” were carved into the hardwood planks in a dark substance.

Having investigated the entire floor, the party returned to the first-floor ballroom.

Ro-Mahn disabled the floor trap while Stabem set to work on the column trap. Both rogues were able to successfully disarm the traps.

Barnacleez identified the magical objects upon the two tables. It total, there were five potions of cure light wounds, two potions of endure elements, a potion of enlarge person and a potion of reduce person. The monocle was an Antiquarian’s Monocle:

This magical eyepiece is often used by those without spellcasting training to peruse mystical writings.

ANTIQUARIAN’S MONOCLE
PRICE 1,350 GP
SLOT eyes CL 3rd WEIGHT
AURA faint divination

This lens, mounted in a round silver frame, fits snugly in the eye orbit of any Medium or Small user. Three times per day on command, the monocle allows the user to read magical inscriptions (including scrolls) as if affected by read magic.

Once per day, by speaking a second command word, the user can activate a 1st level spell from a scroll even if she doesn’t have the spell on her class list or meet the other requirements. Activating a scroll with the monocle is a full-round action (or the spell’s casting time, whichever is longer).

Additionally, there were four vials of alchemist’s fire and two sunrods.

A search of the northern portion of the room yielded an old map of the manor and surrounding grounds. It indicated that there is a secret door in the southwest corner of the cellar but not what lies beyond it. A musical note has been drawn onto the area depicting the ballroom. Besides the map, a chain shirt and a masterwork cold iron longsword were also found.

After plundering the room, the party moved on to the last door on the second floor. Ro-Mahn checked it for locks and traps. Finding none, Cando opened the door and entered the room.

Stepping around the trapped floor section, Barnacleez and Ro-Mahn continued to examine the contents of the two tables. The gnome identified 9 magical auras upon the table to the right and one aura on the table to the left. The magical objects on the right all appeared to be potions while the object to the left was a monocle. The leftmost table also contained 4 alchemist’s fires and 2 sunrods amongst the alchemical artifacts. The rogue did not find anything trapped or hidden.

Cando and Wahesh stopped and waited for the rest of the part to catch up. Lady Emyralda approached as the half-orc was explaining the subject of the taxidermy project before them. “That my friends if the carcass of a manticore. If it were still alive, those wings would allow the beast to fly by, attack you and fly away. They are surprisingly maneuverable for a creature so large.” Pointing, Cando continued, “See that tail? The monster could fire those spikes in volleys. They are as effective as short bows in a strong man’s hands. The insidious thing is that those babies grow back quickly, taking only a day or two to replenish …”

As Cando continued to inform the rest of the party, Stabem walked past, to examine the northern portion of the room. The halfling paused next to the pillar and set off another trap. Scythe blades emerged from the pillar striking in the area surrounding the pillar. The halfling luckily ducked the blade and avoided the damage.
