GoM: The Festering Blot - GM Turn Post 36

A closer look at the northern portion of the room reveals that the creature on the platform has a vaguely humanoid head, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dragon. Its tail ends in long, sharp spikes. A successful Knowledge: Arcana roll can identify the creature.

Cando offered to heal Lady Emyralda but the cleric declined and channeled positive energy to heal 8 damage from herself and Wahesh instead.

Cando and Wahesh carefully skirted the perimeter of the room heading toward the northern portion.

Ro-Mahn stepped to the door way and noticed that something looked off with the floor near the tables. He stepped into the room and warned fellow party members away from the spot. Stabem entered the room and examined the indicated section of the floor. The halfling determined that it was trapped with a spiked pressure plate.

Lady Emyralda entered the room and stayed toward the windows in the turret. Barnacleez stood in the doorway and cast Detect Magic and looked toward the two tables. The gnome detected the presence of magic.

The furniture in this irregularly shaped room are cluttered with scientific equipment, and the glassy eyes of taxidermy animal heads stare down from the walls. At the north end of the room, the stuffed body of a large, winged beast is mounted on a low platform.

Two tables are arranged between the fireplace and pillar, segregating the southern portion of the room. Both contain an assortment of bottles, flasks and other alchemical paraphernalia. Two cabinets sit in the northern portion of the room on either side of the stuffed creature.

Stabem examined the door to the east for traps. The halfling discovered none and proceeded to pick the lock. He stepped back and motioned to Cando that it was not safe to open. The half-orc opened the door to reveal the room beyond.

A search of the room determines that the only valuables are the jewelry from the table. The remains of the iron cobra are worth 100 GP. The signet ring could likely fetch 25 GP to the right buyer and the assorted jewelry has a value of 125 GP.

The door to the to the east is locked.

Barnacleez activated his wand again sending a Magic Missile at the construct. The spell landed and dealt 4 damage. Landy Emyralda retreated from the monster and moved across the room. The cleric managed to resist further effects from the poison.

The snake moved into the space left by the halfling and struck at Wahesh. The bite dealt 4 damage and injected poison which the fighter resisted. Stabem stepped forward and stabbed at the creature but missed. Cando took a two-handed swing with his axe but missed his target.

Wahesh hit with his longsword but was not able to penetrate the monster’s metal skin. The fighter’s shortsword failed to connect. Ro-Mahn maneuvered around and attacked the construct while flanking with Stabem. His rapier found a joint in the armored plating and dealt 6 damage and rendered the iron cobra inactive.

Barnacleez stepped back and fired his wand of Magic Missiles at the construct. The spell landed and dealt 3 damage. Ro-Mahn hesitated waiting for a flanking partner before engaging the monster. Lady Emyralda swung her scimitar but missed the snake-like creature. The halfling stepped back from the table.

The monster followed and attacked the cleric once more. This time it managed to bite her for 7 damage and injected poison into the wound. Lady Emyralda was not strong enough to fight the effects of the poison and suffered 2 Constitution damage.

Stabem moved forward to attack the construct but his rapier missed the target. Cando moved into position to attack, charging his axe with arcane energy, and swung his weapon at the machine. The blow landed and dealt 6 damage as part of the blow was deflected by the construct’s metal skin.

Wahesh moved next to Lady Emyralda and swung his sword. The attack missed the small and agile opponent. Ro-Mahn moved forward and jumped atop the table. The ranger/rogue attacked the snake and managed to skewer it with his rapier for 4 damage.

Barancleez entered the room and cast a Detect Magic spell. The gnome did not discover any new auras of magic.

Ro-Mahn entered the room and made a slow clockwise circuit looking for traps but he did not detect any. With the indication that things were safe, Cando opened the balcony doors and let in some fresh air. The light of the early afternoon sun shone through unobstructed to brighten the room.

Wahesh checked under the bed looking for anything interesting. Stabem stood guard at the door through which the party entered the room.

Lady Emyralda examined the items on the table. It contained a large necklace, other assorted jewelry and a signet ring with the Sarini crest. When the halfling reached to examine the ring more closely, the “necklace” reared up and struck at the surprised halfling but missed its target.

A large, red four-poster bed sits in the northeast corner of this grand bedroom. Many pieces of dusty jewelry lie on a round table beside a fireplace on the west wall. A large glass double door leads to a balcony with a view over hills and valleys to the south.

Ro-Mahn examined the closets and gave the all clear to Cando. Within the center one, the half-orc discovered a magical cloak and four noble’s outfits, worth 75 gp each. All were in pristine condition. Behind the clothes was a small stash of weapons consisting of a cold iron morningstar and a cold iron dagger, both wrapped in luxurious cloth and tied with a red silken sash.

Barnacleez examined the cloak and announced it to be, Beth, a +1 cloak of resistance.

The remaining closets both contained smelly, moth-eaten clothes.

Once the room was searched, the party moved on to the next room.

Anilda smiled at the party’s responses and continued, “I like you and wish to help. The room to the left is the nursery where my baby rests. The room to the immediate right is a large bathroom. Next to that is the master bedroom. There is a locked door to whatever lies beyond. The door at the end is another small bedroom.”

“When I found myself on this plane, I was drawn to this house. It has a certain air of emptiness and tragedy. When I entered, I found those things and more. There is a creature here. I have served him out of respect for his power. His name is Wormgnash. He looks like a human man with dark hair and a moustache but that is not all he is. You will likely find him in the basement but I have not ventured down there so I am unfamiliar with what is down there.”

After further conversation and some time, Barnacleez’s sight returned. The party bid Anlida farewell and moved on to the next room.
