GoM: What Lurks in the Woods - GM Turn Post 2

The homesteads nearest the city belong to farmers. When asked about the recent goblin sightings, the farmers point the party further up the road. Eventually, the dirt roads give way to smaller, worn-down trails. Pastures thick with green grass and dotted with sheep and other livestock replace the rows of wheat and vegetables. Soon, you can faintly make out the sound of running water nearby.

As the party nears a stream, a young shepherd bolts across one of the nearby fields, clearly terrified by something behind him. He shouts and gestures frantically toward whatever he’s fleeing. “I saw them!” he screams. “Goblins! They’re in the woods! They took our sheep! You have to do something!”

What do you do?

Starting positions are displayed on the combat map.

Please submit your turn instructions using the Player Action Response - Turn Post Template. If you are planning to use a specific skill, please list the skill and the associated roll(s) along with your 5 d20 rolls.

GoM: What Lurks in the Woods – Turn Results 1

After accepting the mission from the Mayor, the party made their final preparations and exited the city, moving through the Traveler’s Square and out the gate north of the Gallows’ Graveyard.

On Vacation for a Few Days

I will be away for the holiday starting tomorrow. I do not expect to be checking in on the game very seriously until Monday or Tuesday next week.

While I am away, feel free to get me your Day Job rolls and updated characters and post questions for the Mayor as appropriate.

GoM: What Lurks in the Woods - GM Turn Post 1

In the interest of keeping momentum, we can start the next adventure without new character sheets but cannot go too far.

Shortly after your last interrogation of Gellion, Mayor Sandra Trinelli reaches out to you directly to request a meeting at your earliest convenience. After arriving at Saringallow Town Hall, the party is lead to the Mayor's office.

Golden beams of light stream into this comfortable-but-official room’s picture window, illuminating a cluttered wooden desk and an empty chair pushed haphazardly to the side. Between the window and the desk strides Mayor Sandra Trinelli, who, brow furrowed, has clearly worn a pacer’s path into the plush red carpet. Noticing her visitors, she sighs in determined resignation and steps behind her desk, leaning over it gravely.

“I’m glad you’ve arrived,” she says, a measure of relief creeping into her strained voice. “Our town is dealing with its share of troubles right now, and this unknown menace beyond our walls has me the most worried.”

She takes a deep breath as if composing herself, and sits carefully in her chair, assuming a self-assured posture that seems to come to her much more naturally.

“Specifically, we may have a goblin problem,” the mayor continues. “I’ve recently received reports of goblins lurking in the woods outside of town. There have been no attacks yet—only minor damage to fences and some stolen sheep, I’m told—but we can’t afford to let our guard down. Given how we suffered during the Goblinblood Wars, we can’t assume that these scattered sightings are meaningless when they might very well mean that a major warband is about to descend on our heads.

“Even worse, it seems that these goblins are covered in some unholy manner of filth—even more so than normal! If word about that gets out, well, folks might start to panic. We are a superstitious lot here in Saringallow, as I’m sure you know.

“In short, we need to move quickly and deal with these goblins before they become a larger threat. Sending members of the town guard out into the woods, though, could leave us open to attack. I’m sure you see my dilemma.

“This is where I’d like you to intercede, my friends. Find out where the goblins are coming from and who—if anyone—is leading them, then take out the threat. I can offer you a bounty of 5 gold pieces for each goblin you kill, 10 gold pieces for each goblin dog, and an additional bonus of 100 gold pieces if you bring me proof that you’ve destroyed their camp or otherwise dealt with whatever additional threat they pose.

“Most of the sightings have originated from the area northwest of town, particularly near the homesteaders out by Clover Stream. That’s probably a good place to start your investigation. Aside from that, I’m afraid I don’t have much else to tell you. Unless you have any specific questions?”

Adventure Complete

I have reported the first adventure. As I stated before, only Lady Emyralda has been registered on the Paizo site (and she is listed as Grand Lodge vs. Scarab Sages).

I will send out chronicles once we have wrapped up any Day Job rolls. If you have a Craft, Profession or Perform skill, you may attempt to earn a little extra money. Please provide your rolls.

In the meantime, a copy of the chronicle is shown below. You have earned 3 XP, 4 PP and 1436 GP and all of the boons.

Please send me your updated, 2nd level character sheets. Once I have one from everyone, we can proceed with the next adventure in earnest.

Gallows of Madness: A Foul Breed – Turn Results 48

The Mayor thanked the party again for its service and for explaining the nature of the Demon’s Bile and its likely influence on Gellion. “You have given me much to consider. When the time comes, I will speak on the boy’s behalf and seek leniency. For now, it is best to let them all rest and heal.”

Gellion returned to his old self over the course of a few days of treatment. He was utterly ashamed of his actions and fell into deep remorse. He did not remember much of what he did while under the influence of the Demon’s Bile. He remembered a desperate urge to ingest the bile, but after that, he only had recollections of disturbing dreams and an obsession with “bringing the demon worms home.”

When asked about what he did with Nixa Volsetti, Gellion had no memory of the event. Based upon what the Pathfinders told him, he suggested that they speak to the Mayor about recent nearby goblin sightings.

Gallows of Madness: A Foul Breed - GM Turn Post 48

Word of the apprentices’ rescue and return to the temple soon reaches the Mayor. Sandra Trinelli comes to the temple and requests an update from the Pathfinders. After an explanation of everything that the party encountered, the Mayor pays the agreed upon fee. With visible relief, she commends the party, “You have expertly resolved both tasks I put before you. The vermin issue is resolved and all six apprentices have been returned alive.”

She continues in a more somber tone, “Things are likely to go poorly for the Vazarro boy. The townsfolk will want to see him harshly punished for his actions. Saringallow has a long memory and no patience for dark deeds perpetrated against vulnerable youth. There is no understanding why anyone would do such terrible things.”

Do you try to defend or explain Gellion’s actions?
