In Service of Lore GM Turn Post 16

Darkness fills the warehouse, the ambient light from outside blocked by a filthy, oily film on the structure’s few windows. Darting illumination comes from light reflecting off the water through a splintered hole in the floor. Throughout the warehouse, crates, boxes, and barrels lean against each other in vaguely sorted stacks. A lingering smell indicates some of the contents are certainly spoiled.
Perched in the middle of the hole, teetering on split planks, sits a large crate stamped with three crows arranged in a triangle. Handholds cut into the stout wooden crate ring the rim. Other barrels, boxes, and crates sit stacked along the walls of the warehouse. Just inside the door sits a handful of crates and kegs of beer. Most of these smaller crates and barrels contain foodstuffs in various states of freshness. Some crates reek of rot. Stacks of simple coffins sit against the east wall. The rest of the crates stacked along the north and south walls contain simple sundries including, but not limited to beer, blocks of clay, coffee, coils of rope, dried fish, lead ingots, nails, nets, raw cotton, rough wool, spare sails, timber planks, various pulleys and tools, and cheap weapons.
A crane, used for loading and unloading boats, clings to a rail running the length of the warehouse, hanging 5 feet below the high ceiling, and can slide out to extend past the loading doors along the west wall.

  1. My thought is to move around the warehouse to make sure no one else is waiting inside.

Then to make a way over to the box. I don't want to give any indication that we are after the box until we are sure no one else is here.

If the room is clear start looking for a crowbar or other means to open the box.

I am either going to cast Detect Magic / Light to aid my group to view the contents of this warehouse. I was thinking of light on a crate or something else to provide ample light and to remove shadows.

  2. In case you missed it in the description, the box is precariously hanging over a hole in the floor. "Perched in the middle of the hole, teetering on split planks, sits a large crate stamped with three crows arranged in a triangle." (See U12, U13, V12, V13).

  3. I was more thinking that there might be someone else in the room.

Ultimately I guess we want to use the Crane and grab and secure the box so it will not fall into the water. Then move the box to safer ground and open the crate.

I guess we would also look underneath the building to make sure nothing was going to jump out at us. Trying to not to be flat footed.

I think Jerry / Noc / Ronan since they are have some dexterity.

I am thinking Krog / Ronan (Use Magic Device) can figure out how to work the crane.

    Rolls Below for me.

  4. Keith, what sort of roleplay or die roll do we need to work the crane? Can someone just say "I hook the crate with the crane and swing it over to the door"?

  5. Basically you can rig the crane using items found in the warehouse (ropes, nets, etc.) but someone would need to navigate around the hole and brave the narrow planks to attach the ropes to the chest. That will require acrobatics.

  6. All,

As you move through the warehouse I need you to call out your path. It can make a difference.

  7. Noc is going to silently move to S4, via ->Q3->Q4->S4. He is searching for traps and hidden people along the way.

    Stealth: [7] + 2 = 9
(meh, not so silent after all)

    Perception: [16] +8 = 24

  8. Afterthought: Should we consider barring the door behind us to avoid something sneaking up on us as we move in?
