A few pieces of silver tableware lie strewn about on a 30-foot-long oak table, and more valuables are displayed in a large antique vitrine. The heads of three beasts—a dragon, lion, and goat—have been mounted above a fireplace on the north wall.

Single doors exit to the north and west.

Starting positions are displayed on the combat map.

A search of the room and attached cloakroom found a few things worth taking; the shipyard painting, 5 cold iron arrows, 5 cold iron bolts, and 26 gold pieces. The party gathered the remaining valuables and proceeded to the next room.

Paintings of people and landscapes adorn the walls of this once-grand entrance hall. A few small vases, most of them cracked or broken altogether, sit on semi-circular tables set against the west wall. A faint smell of mildew hangs in the air.

The landscapes depict a sunset over mountains; a garden; and shipyards. The portraits depict two proud-looking noblemen with prominent chins and a beautiful noble lady.

Double doors exit to the north and south. Single doors exit to the east and west. The door to the southwest opens into a cloakroom.

Starting positions are displayed on the combat map.

Barnacleez conversed with the voice in his head while the party searched the room. The gnome asked and answered questions and introduced his equipment and companions by name. The sorcerer promised to assist the spirit in discovering its forgotten identity.

The only item of value discovered was the masterwork lute with the broken condition. When the party was ready to move on, Cando picked up the instrument and opened the door to the next room. Barnacleez continued to speak with the voice only he could hear.

Once-fine furniture, now ripped and faded from neglect, adorns this chamber. Two large mirrors have been set on the north wall here, but cracks and dark stains mar their silvery surface, and many pieces are missing. A lute rests against the back of a stained red velvet sofa. Doors exit to the north and east.

As the party enters the room, Barnacleez hears a voice in his head. A harsh, burping voice echoes in the gnome’s mind. “Who are you, trespasser? Who sent you here? What are you looking for?”

The party searched the room for anything valuable or possibly related to the records they were tasked with finding.

Barnacleez cast Detect Magic and soon discovered eight faint auras of magic. Ro-Mahn check the area for traps but found none. Given the all clear, the gnome investigated further. The magical auras turned out to be eight scrolls contained within a box made of hollowed out books. The scrolls were:  alarm, charm animal, comprehend languages, disguise self, jump, mount, obscuring mist, and shield of faith. The caster level of each scroll is 1st.

After 40 minutes of searching, the party found no signs of the records but discovered three texts that were in reasonable shape and likely held value. Each book is worth 50 GP and contains information potentially useful to the reader. Using any of the books to gain a bonus on a check takes 10 minutes of studying, and the bonus lasts for 1 hour. The user can attempt any of the listed checks untrained.

Stabem found a book titled From Rivers to Mountains. This old collection of maps and travel literature grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (geography) checks pertaining to Isger and Survival checks to avoid getting lost or survive in the wilderness while in Isger.

Barnacleez found a tome titled History of Isger. Though outdated, this tome grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (history or nobility) checks pertaining to Isger.

Wahesh found a volume titled The Nine Secrets. Luckily before the fighter opened it, Ro-Mahn warned him of the trap. The ranger/rogue worked to disable the poison needle before the book was examined. At first glance, the book appeared to be a collection of weird poetry to Ro-Mahn and Wahesh. Once examined by other party members, Stabem noticed secret messages hidden on its pages. Once deciphered, the book grants a +2 circumstance bonus on Knowledge (planes or religion) checks related to devils, diabolism, Hell, or Asmodeus.

(Scolls and Books have been added to the treasure list. Please advise who is carrying them.)

With the investigation completed, the party exited the room through the door to the south.

The long bookshelves in these dusty alcoves are filled with books. The smell of mildewed paper hangs in the air. This library contains a fine collection of books, maps, and other old documents, but mildew has ruined most.

As he played his tune, Cando found that the harpsichord to be in fair shape but in need of tuning and maintenance. The half-orc did not find anything extraordinary about the instrument.

Wahesh performed a very thorough search of Ticklick’s body. He did not find anything else of interest. The fighter drank both potions found on the mite and was healed 11 damage.

Ro-Mahn determined that the seams around the base of the statue on the staircase landing suggest that the current statue has replaced an earlier one.

Banacleez and Lady Emyralda discovered patches of the purple goo, Demon’s Bile. on the two support columns. The party cleansed the taint using their available cold iron weapons and positive energy spells.

Finding nothing else of interest or value, Stabem checked the western door and found no traps and determined that it was not locked. The rogue stepped back and declared it safe to proceed in that direction. The party formed up and Cando opened the door.

A search of the monster yielded 2 potions of cure light wounds, 2 tanglefoot bags, a small dagger, a small short bow and 12 arrows.

What do you do next? Once you are finished with this room, where do you plan to head next?
The ballroom remains unexplored.

From the lower floor of the ballroom, a door exits to the west and double doors exit to the south. From the balcony level, two doors exit to the west, a door exits to the east, another single door and double doors exit to the south.

Ro-Mahn fired a sling bullet from behind the western pillar but the shot missed the mite. Ticklick stepped back and fired twice at Wahesh but both missiles failed to connect.

Barnacleez activated his wand and sent a Magic Missile toward the monster. The spell landed and dealt 2 damage. Having survived the assault, Wahesh pressed his luck and tumbled through the creature’s position. The fighter managed to get past the enemy without harm and attacked with his cold iron longsword. The blow landed and dealt 8 damage. Ticklick cried out with rage and pain and was staggered.

Lady Emyralda moved to the top of the stairs and channeled positive energy to heal 9 damage from Wahesh and to heal Ro-Mahn and herself to full. Stabem rush forward into the void left by Wahesh. The halfling stabbed with his cold iron rapier and dealt 3 damage which dropped the monster.

Ro-Mahn pulled out one of his wands of Cure Light Wounds and used it to heal 6 damage from himself. Ticklick stepped back and fired another pair of arrows at Wahesh but both missed the target.

Barnacleez fired another Magic Missile from his wand but the spell fizzled on contact with the mite. Wahesh stepped forward and attacked with both cold iron swords. The longsword missed but the short sword landed and dealt 8 damage.

Cursing the shortness of her stride, Lady Emyralda headed back to the east and toward the injured Wahesh. Stabem moved ahead and got behind the fighter. Cando changed another dart with arcane energy and hurled it at the mite. The projectile missed the small monster due to cover and Cando being cautious of Wahesh’s proximity to the target.

Ro-Mahn moved from behind the statue and took cover behind the western pillar. The mite, Ticklick, took a step back and fired two arrows at Wahesh. Both hit the fighter for 5 and 6 damage each.

Barnacleez continued up the stairs and fired his wand at the monster. The Magic Missile hit the mite and dealt 5 damage. Wahesh stepped up and attacked with his cold iron swords. The longsword landed a blow dealing 11 damage while the short sword missed.

Lady Emyralda changed directions and moved after Ro-Mahn. The cleric closed the distance with the rogue but was still not close enough to heal him. Stabem also reversed directions, passing Lady Emyralda on the stairs to move up next to Barnacleez. Cando drew a dart, stepped forward, charged it with arcane energy and hurled it at the mite. The projectile narrowly missed the target.

New Guide and Forward Planning

I have posted a link to the 9.1 update of the PFS Roleplaying Guild Guide under the PBB References section. There are not many major changes but there is now a new faction, the Concordance, which is available for play. If anyone plans to switch, please let me know.

I am also doing some forward planning. If things go smoothly, I expect that we will finish our current adventure in April. Upon its completion, your characters will be 4th level for sure with the opportunity to be 5th level if you choose. I expect that you will all choose to gain the level but I could be wrong.

Assuming you want to continue to play, and to use the same characters, we have numerous PFS scenarios to choose from as well as a couple of modules within the correct level range.

The module that I am leaning toward is called Down the Blighted Path. The adventure starts in the dwarven town of Davarn, located in the Five King Mountains, as the PCs attend the Spring Festival. The adventure has three sections (tiers 4th-6th, 5th-7th and 6th-8th)  with a  bonus chronicle(7th-9th). That means that with applying full credit, your characters could be 9th level at the end of it. In this format, it will likely take another year or two to play.

Otherwise, we will need to start new guys as Joe only has the one PFS character. Our options are vast if we go down this path.

Please take a moment to vote in the poll for the option that you would like to pursue.

Ro-Mahn ascended the stairs and took cover behind the statue. The mite moved along the balcony to the south. Unable to shoot Ro-Mahn, the monster changed targets to Wahesh and fired 2 arrows from his short bow at the fighter. Both missiles hit and dealt 6 damage each. After firing, the mite and his mount moved behind the cover of the pillar to the east.

Barnacleez moved into the room and started up the stairs. Wahesh rushed up the stairs and moved adjacent to the mounted monster. Lady Emyralda followed after the fighter as quickly as she could. Stabem moved up the stairs in the opposite direction.

From his vantage, Cando could see the monsters behind the cover of the railing and the pillar. The half-orc drew a dart, charged it with arcane energy and hurled it at the giant centipede. The well-placed missile struck the vermin and dealt 7 damage which dropped it. The mite jumped free of his fallen mount and managed to retain his feet.
