              Conditions

     Fergus – 1 WIS damage
     Fergus – Blinded – 4 rounds
     Jerry – Blinded – 5 rounds
     Korg – 1 WIS damage
     Nester – Blinded – 3 rounds
     Ronan – 2 WIS damage
     Ronan – Blinded – 3 rounds

Blinded: The creature cannot see. It takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class, loses its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any), and takes a –4 penalty on most Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks and on opposed Perception skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Perception checks based on sight) automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have total concealment (50% miss chance) against the blinded character. Blind creatures must make a DC 10 Acrobatics skill check to move faster than half speed. Creatures that fail this check fall prone.

  1. So I am clear: We have an item THEY want, but their item appears bogus? And now there was a blast, and we hear breaking glass? What was the reaction of the gillmen - are they making a move towards any direction? Are they snatching at our item?

    1. Since Korg can see, I will explain further. The glass was dropped by the bartender, the gillmen closed their eyes at the signal and then the bartender cast a pyrotechnics spell. The other non-combatants in the bar are also blinded. (I left them off the map for ease of understanding.)

The artifact that you brought is on the table in front of the seated gillman. No one has it in their grasp currently.

  2. So my thought is to grab our item if applicable.

Cast Shield since I can't see a thing and it might be my best option.

    Then listen for attackers.

    1. Is Ronan grabbing for the artifact or casting a shield spell?

If casting the spell, are you casting defensively, taking a 5ft step or both?

    2. It depends on how I go in the initiative round.

If I go early enough I will grab the item since I will be blinded for a bit.

If someone else secures the item, I will take a 5" step back. Cast Shield on the defensive.

  3. Korg will attempt to grab "our" item back from the table, first of all while announcing to the rest of the bar "The bartender is a sorcerer in league with the gillmen to rob us - he's blinded most of us! Mind your valuables and hold your ground!" (Diplomacy?)

If successful I will also tell my party the item is safe; if not - I will let them know which one grabbed it, and attempt to stop him... by Magic Missle, to start with!

    Init: 14 +1 = 15

Move action - grab the artifact and retreat away from gillmen
Attack action - shoot a Magic Missile at whoever grabs it before me - or shoot anyone who comes at me after I grab it.

  4. So a successful sense motive got me what? Time to say "I got a bad feelin about--ACH!"

    1. The problem is that you did not sense motive on the proper NPC. No one indicated that they were interacting with the bartender and since there were servers, I assumed that nobody had bothered to venture over to the bar.

The trigger for the fight was when someone questioned the authenticity of the gillman artifact.
