  1. Hmm...what to do...

Well, does our magical brain trust know how to solve this: "Even if destroyed, Haunts will come back after some period of time unless the underlying cause of the Haunt is dealt with allowing the spirit(s) to rest."?

Second, do we want to monkey with the 'glittering runes' door to the north?

    14, 10, 18, 4, 5.

    15, 46, 49, 61, 65 & 21 -- my Powerball # (:

    1. It is sometimes more of an art than a science. Sometimes it is very obvious and other times not so much.

  2. I think this was a construct not a haunt. Probably some kind of protection. Check the room for anything of value. Then I am guessing we go to the next room.

Who was "The images of Delbera and the half-orc faded away."
I am just not sure when this was posted.

    Sorry I forgot.

Yell Dwarves we will maintain honor. We want to do the right thing for your god!

    1. Lady Emyralda is certain that a haunt was responsible for animating the construct.

      See turn 29 post: http://pbbpfsgame.blogspot.com/2020/04/dtbp-firebrands-redoubt-gm-turn-post-29.html

  3. (The haunt could re-animate this monster after a time, probably 24 hours (maybe more, maybe less))

Ro-Mahn winks at Wahesh. "'Monkeying' is what we do best, aye?"
Ro-Mahn will examine the shimmering rune-door.
    Perception: 26 (27 for traps) (29 for a goblin-built trap)

    1. The door is locked physically and augmented magically. Ro-Mahn does not think it is trapped.

    2. The runes on the northern door of this chamber are Dwarven, and in that language read, “Those who stand against injustice, those sired by the will to defend, announce yourselves and enter.”

  4. "were those the fellows we were in the obstacle race with?"

"oh, and haunts aren't my business."

  5. "were those the fellows we were in the obstacle race with?"

No, these are the members of the Rising Blades, a local adventuring band from a couple hundred years ago. This building is their club house/fortress/tomb.

This room contains portraits of some of the predominant members.

The former secret door radiates a strong magical aura which detects as both abjuration and necromancy.

  6. "Oh, aye?" Ro-Mahn glances around at the group and clears his throat.
"Ahem! I am Ro-Mahn, of the Ro-Mahn, and I stand against injustice! I and me compatriots are charged with rescuing innocents that have been taken! Open, so that we may complete our righteous mission!"
...and he attempts to open the door.

  7. I'm so glad Ro-Mahn saved me the trouble of saying "Yourselves!" then face-planting on the door as I try to go through it :D. Hey, it worked in the movie.

Any more on the story of the Rising Blades? Did they come to some horrible end?

  8. "And I am Barnacleez, and I too fight for honor!"

  9. Cando also declares his honorable adventuring bonafides to the ...door thing. Keep looking around.

  10. None of the attempts to address the door seem to have any effect.

  11. Thanks for making us look like idiots, I guess next we will eat kitty litter.

    1. Should we try to take 20 on a lockpick? There's still a lot of this place to explore, right? Come back later?
The only problem with coming back later is we might have to fight the construct again.

    2. Not trying to make anyone act foolishly. You just have not figured out what to do.

Based upon examination of the lock and magical aura, Ro-Mahn feels it is beyond his current skill to open.

  12. While shaking, pulling, pushing and rattling the door Wahesh cries: "Oh, come on. PLEASE door, open. Openopenopenopen OPEN!"

    *hangs head*

"Well, that's all I got. I'm fine with coming back to this."

  13. Maybe one of the magically strong fellows can break the door down..

    1. I believe that is directed at Cando or Stabem as recipients of Bull's Strength.

      Delete
    2. AS a recipient of Bull's Strength then, Cando will lean into it and make an attempt to force the door open... "Lets see now." switches to speaking Dwarven, "Listen up door!" draws forth his crowbar from his handy haversack "My name is Cando Numida..." selects a spot to insert the bar "...and I stand against injustice!" squeeeeze.... "...and as a friend to the Dwarven people let me innnnnnnnn" focusing his strength, he tries to pop it open...

      roll 17 +4 +2(BS) +2(Crowbar) = 25

    3. Cando attempts to pry the door open but his attempt yields no results. Not even a dent or scratch is evidence of his efforts. The magic surrounding the door holds it fast.

  14. There you go. And I just loosened it up for them!

    ReplyDelete
  15. "Aye, well, there's all them... whatcha callem -- clues! Clues all about. Yeh prolly have to solve a riddle or find a password to open it." He shrugs. "Sure we'll find it."

    ReplyDelete
  16. Since the party cannot currently open the former secret door, what do you want to do next?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Waaaaitaminute. Each one of these haunt encounters has a quote. This one was "We who court the ways of honor." The one with the ghost-smith was "By sweat and blood, we have come here."

    Were there more?

    1. Those are the only two that you have heard so far.

The first haunt resolved but was not defeated. There were no voices as it faded.

  18. As we stand arrayed around the door, Wahesh says:
"Seems like none of us are strong enough, rich, pretty or clever enough for this one to even give us a sly look. let's take the rejection like the men, lady and monkey that we are are and see if we get a better reception from her big sister."

Shall we try out the double doors on the south wall?

  19. Where's the love!?

Ok, back out the east door then south down the passage. Yah?

    ReplyDelete
  20. yeah lets backtrack till we find a place we can go.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The two obvious remaining paths are the stairs going up and the passageway to the south.

  22. South! Clear the level first(:
