Cando and Wahesh stood guard at the base of the steps while
Barnacleez stood nearby the fighters with his crossbow at the ready. Lady
Emyralda stood by speaking encouraging words and promising to heal folks once
they ventured upstairs. Both the gnome and the halfling cast Detect Magic and
scanned the room. Neither noted any new magical auras.
While searching the shelves to the south, Ro-Mahn set off a
trap. The miniature, make-shift ballista shot a sharpened fork at the rogue.
The missile hit, dealing 3 damage to Ro-Mahn. Afterward, the rogue noticed a
pile of similarly prepared forks next to the trap. These were apparently more
ammunition for re-loading the device.
Further searching of the room did not yield anything else of
interest or value.
The search moved on to the kitchen. Pushing the door open to
enter the kitchen sprung another fork trap. This time it was Stabem that was
hit. The ballistic fork hit the rogue dealing 4 damage. As before, a pile of
prepared forks was stacked nearby.
The smell of rotting food and stagnant water rose from the
filth in this small kitchen, mixed sickeningly with the strong, coppery scent
of fresh blood. Broken jugs, upturned trays, and scraps of food littered the
room. In the sink, a large bowl filled with chewed and spatout food floated in
thick, bloody water within the sink. An open door to the south revealed a ransacked
pantry.
While the smell from the sink was revolting, neither Ro-Mahn
nor Stabem suffered any ill effects from exposure. Nothing of value or interest
was discovered.
The party proceeded to climb the stairs to the 2nd
level of the house.
