After searching the storeroom and washroom and not finding
anything of interest or value, the party moved on to investigate the door to
the north. Ro-Mahn searched the door for traps while Cando and Wahesh stood
guard. Barnacleeze cast Detect Magic but did not detect any new magical aura.
Ro-Mahn did not detect any traps and the door was not
locked. The rogue carefully opened the door and peered inside. Beyond the door
was a large bedroom. The room was a mess featuring upturned furniture and all the
decorations were knocked from the shelves and walls. Every painting was smashed
from its frame and torn to pieces. Sitting on the otherwise-undisturbed master
bed was a single journal.
Examination of the journal revealed that it belonged to
Gellion’s mother, Beldonna Vazarro. Its contents were quite mundane—simply a
record of the family’s life from day to day—but every page has the message “Our
son is an awful disappointment” written over it in blood, in the same childlike
handwriting as that was seen on the wall of the washroom. By skimming the
journal and concentrating on the most recent entries, Ro-Mahn deduced that
Beldonna was concerned about her son’s well-being: he was spending too much
time on his experiments, was not eating well, and seemed distant from his
friends and parents.
