Torches in each corner of this large room shed dim
flickering light between high columns of barrels and crates. Four large pillars
support the ceiling. Purplish-black slime covers the eastern wall and much of
the room’s southeast corner, stretching between the walls, pillars, and crates
with long filaments. Countless shapes, varying greatly in size, crowd the
sludge. Several of these shapes, pinned to the walls and crates or lying on the
floor, appear human-sized.
The party’s attention was immediately drawn to a halfling-sized
insect, a horrifically bloated fly with a proboscis shaped like a serrated hook,
flying lazily in the southeast corner. Its many-faceted eyes smoldering like
hot coals.
While the party was looking at the fly with a mix of disgust
and horror, a young human man, covered in patches of Demon Bile, popped up from
behind the crates to the east and declared, “Must bringing the worm demons home!”
The young man, presumably Gellion, threw an Alchemist’s Fire at Cando. It was a
long throw but the concoction hit dealing 6 damage and catching the half-orc on
fire. Alchemical splatter from the bomb burned Wahesh, Stabem and Lady Emyralda
for 1 damage each. The distance and accuracy of the attack spoke to the skill
of the attacker.

As long as I have a fighter type in front of me. (lol)
ReplyDeleteMove to F9 and Blat I am thinking I want to exclude the Bug / Maybe Gellion (I think if I cured the Demon Bile on him he might snap out of it. Not sure however).

So I should use 19 as your initiative roll + your mod?
DeleteSure
DeleteCando will ... attempt to put out flames on himself? Move into the room in conjunction with that, to E10 and use them as cover while he puts himself out. Rolling to the ground to gain a +4 on my save. (so I end the turn prone, and...)
ReplyDeleteReflex save: 7 +3 + 4 = BURNINATION (fuck me)
Rolls: 19,4,12,9,9
Move to
If desired, the target can use a full-round action to attempt to extinguish the f lames before taking this additional damage. Extinguishing the f lames requires a DC 15 Reflex save. Rolling on the ground provides the target a +2 bonus on the save. Leaping into a lake or magically extinguishing the flames automatically smothers the fire.
DeleteSo at most you can move 5 feet if you are attempting this. Otherwise, you take another d6 damage and the fire goes out before the next round.
DeleteI assume that you wanted to try this and failed. The question is where yould you like to end up?

My initiative is 6, i forgot to put that in
ReplyDeleteWell...we got a crazy bomb-thrower we ought to take alive and a demonfruitfly. What do my veteran adventurers/gold-medalist gamemaster recommend? I saw somewhere that you can punch and grapple now to take Gellion? Or I could concentrate on the fly. I'm guessing I'd have to use my cold iron morningstar.
ReplyDeleteYou can do non-lethal damage with most weapons but you take a -4 penalty to your attack roll. You can also attempt to grapple. That requires a CMB roll vs. the CMD value of the target. This may trigger an attack of opportunity against you.
DeleteTo know more about the fly, a knowledge: nature roll is needed.
Also, taking him alive usually means "pummel him senseless but stop there."
DeleteUse the hell outta that Morningstar.
oooo, yes please, I'd like to know more about the fly.
DeleteNature roll = 16+1=17
Hmm, trying to kill a fly with a morning-star while partially on fire. I've done that before, made a wreck of my living room...
The monster is a Giant Hook Fly. You may ask two questions.
DeleteLady Emyralda also adds that it is a Fiendish version.
What are it's 'special defences' is always a good one to ask.
DeleteJust need Joe's questions and final post before I can post the next turn.
ReplyDeleteIck! Ok, I'll go with "what are it's special defenses"?
ReplyDeleteSince you get two questions, I will give you the answer to the other most likely question for you to ask:
DeleteSpecial Defenses: Immune to mind-affecting effects
Special Attacks:
Spawn Brood - attack also causes Con damage. Once the creature absorbs 6 Con worth of blood, its abdomen ruptures and
disgorges a hook fly swarm. This causes significant damage to the Giant Hook Fly.
Death Throes - If a giant hook fly dies after draining blood with its spawn brood ability but before disgorging a hook fly swarm, its swollen abdomen bursts, sending dead hook flies in every direction. Their tiny hooks deal damage to all creatures within 10 feet.
Ick! In other words: kill it fast
DeleteFun :) Ok, so what's our plan? Who's going to go after Gellion, and who's got the fly? Maybe I should just shoot arrows at the fly...from a distance!
DeleteWe say take out the fly 1st, to give us time to stop the boy safely.
ReplyDelete@Joe - need a decision and a final post so we can move forward.
ReplyDeleteWahesh moves to cover behind column at C11. Will fire arrows at fly only if he reasonably can without endangering the "human-shaped objects." If he can't then he'll hold up there rather than take the risk.
