The party searched the orchard for clues. Barnacleez sent
into the trees while the rest of the party searched the ground. Obvious signs
of a struggle were apparent, starting near the toppled barrel. Barnacleez and
Lady Emyralda cast Detect Magic spells and began to scan the area while Cando and
Stabem stood at the ready with weapons drawn. Wahesh cheerfully leaned against
a tree eating an apple he just plucked from the same tree while Ro-Mahn approached
the barrel and shared his observations.
“It appears that two humanoid creatures fought here several
days ago. The victor half-carried, half-dragged the loser away to the south.
From the looks of it, the loser was a large person. At least one was armed”, he
said with a roguish grin as he stooped to pick up a sap from the grass near the
fallen barrel. Appraising the weapon, Ro-Mahn concluded, “Very nice quality.”
The party started to
follow the trail to the south when with a shriek of fright, Lou G'Boo came
running down a nearby apple tree. The monkey ended his flight on Barnacleez’s
shoulder but continued to shriek. The cause of his alarm emerged from the tree
tops, three beetles as big as house cats. The bugs were dull brown in color brightened
by two glowing orange spots on their carapaces.
Drawing his swords, Wahesh identified the vermin, “Fire
beetles!”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wahesh may ask two questions regarding the fire beetles to
recall information about the creatures. These questions typically seek to
identify things like, special attacks, special defenses, special qualities, hit
dice, alignment, etc.
