As the party entered, Lady Emyralda and Barnacleez
approached the counter as Ro-Mahn browsed the shelves. Wahesh and Cando stood awkwardly
and tried not to touch or break anything. As the shop was small, Stabem waited
outside.
Lady Emyralda continued the conversation, “Majara,
we have been tasked to find all of the missing apprentices by the Mayor. We
stopped by the Orchard and have been by the Tavern already. We think the
apprentices are seeking adventure and may have found more trouble than they
could handle. Could we look around Gellion's room or do you have any idea where
they went?”
The gnome’s demeanor changed immediately as she responded to the halfling.
“What care I of missing apprentices? No, you may not snoop around my shop.”
Barnacleez listened closely to her words and watched her
expressions but could not puzzle out the cause of the other gnome’s distress. He
did feel that the proprietor was acting defensively and was not being completely
forthcoming.
Ro-Mahn selected two alchemist’s fire from the shelf and set
them on the counter. The rogue tried to smooth things over, "I'll have
these, if you will mum. We trust your discretion as well, good lady," he
continued, rolling his eyes at Emyralda. "Wouldn't want to cause a panic
with our investigation, warranted though it be."
Looking at the flasks, Pricknettle calmed and returned to
her business voice, “A fine choice. I expect you will be very happy with these.
That will be 40 gold.” After Ro-Mahn had paid for this purchase and the gnome had
added the coins to her cash box, Majara continued in a more subdued voice, “I
have not seen Gellion is several days.”
At this point Barnacleez entered the discourse, "Hello
Majara, my name is Barnacleez, and as my colleague has said we are looking for
your missing apprentice, might you have any clues as to what Gellion has been
up to, or who with."
“I do not know but I am certain that Nolaria Wintren has
something to with it. She is a meddler and is always putting foolish and
dangerous ideas in Gellion’s head. Before you ask again, Gellion does
not stay here and I am not at liberty to say where he does.” With a stubborn
resolve, the gnome finishes, “If you want to get any information like
that from me, you’re going to have to give me several good reasons why you
really need it.”
