Barnacleez continued the conversation with the tavern owner, "Well
my good lady, my friends Spike, Frodo, the Bobs, Banky, Jeff, Bucky, Earl, and
Lady Windermere are out wandering the county looking for adventure and
excitement. I am Barnacleeze and this is Lou B’Goo.” The gnome continued, gesturing
at the party, “I happened upon these fellows recently, and we came upon your
lovely little village, and your Ale House looked like the place to whet our
whistles and grab a bite to eat. How fare you and what are today's specials,
for we are a hungry lot."
Wahesh started to speak but then thought better of it and smiled
at the tavern keeper and gave a polite wave instead.
The expression on Alcie Kruptin’s face turned from a scowl
to one of puzzlement. “I usually have no use for adventurers but I do like
well-behaved, paying customers. Gallons of ale and pitchers of wine are 2
silver each. Today we have a lamb stew with carrots, potatoes and apples. It
comes with a fresh loaf of bread and turned butter. Each meal will cost you 5
silver.”
After taking the party’s order, Alcie showed the group to a
table. Wahesh and Cando could tell by the way she moved and carried herself that
she had combat training.
Kruptin returned shortly with the food and drink. As the
proprietor was distributing the refreshments, Wahesh asked, “Are the apples
from the local orchard? We passed through it on our way here. I tried one and
found it tasty. The story about how it became a community concern is very
interesting.”
Ro-Mahn continued, “It is very interesting to hear that the
citizens of Saringallow participated in the Goblinblood Wars.”
Lady Emyralda changed the subject, “Please excuse my friends, Alcie Kruptin. We are looking for Morvinarr
Albusin and we were told he might be here.”
Kruptin’s
expression turned sour once more. “I wish that he was. Fool apprentice! I am sure
he is up to something with his friends. I need him here but I suspect he is off
on some adventure. Morvinarr, being the biggest and strongest of his friends,
sees himself as their protector. Whatever they get up to, he is always there to
keep them out of harm’s way. More often than not, Nolaria leads the band on
some adventure out of town. Many times, I heard them boasting of their exploits
after returning to town. They have not been around lately and Morvinarr has been
taking time off more frequently.”
“I just
know that those kids are up to something. More than likely something dangerous
and to do with magic.” The tavern keeper pulled a folded piece of paper from
her apron. “After Morvinarr missed work, I searched his room and found this,” she
said as she handed over the paper for inspection by the party.
After the
party had a chance to read the note, she took it back and returned it to her
apron. “If you should see the boy in your travels, tell him it is best that he
returns home.”
